Charlottesville Veterinary StaffMary, LVT

Mary joined the Animal Care of Ivy Square team in 2019. She attended Blue Ridge Community College and graduated with her degree in Veterinary Technology in 2007. She spent many years working in the Northern VA and DC area and has specialized in care of exotic animals. She is excited to return to day practice with cats and dogs, though she does miss the exotics some. Her responsibilities include assisting the doctors with all aspects of patient care, monitoring, record keeping and client education. She will obtain blood and urine samples, analyze laboratory samples, take x-rays, administer sedation and anesthesia. She monitors patients, gives medications and treatments as directed by the doctors, and ensures that you understand the doctors’ instructions.

When not working Mary enjoys spending her time off with her young daughter, her cat, and her crested gecko.

Charlottesville Veterinary StaffKierstin, LVT

Kierstin joined our team in October 2024. She is a licensed veterinary technician and a graduate from Vermont Tech. Kierstin is originally from New Hampshire but moved to Virginia for better opportunities and warmer weather. She has loved animals since she was a little girl and always knew veterinary medicine was the field she wanted to be in.

Her responsibilities include assisting the doctors with all aspects of patient care, phlebotomy, radiographs, anesthesia monitoring, record keeping, and client education.

Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her 2 dogs and cat. She also loves to paint for fun.

Charlottesville Veterinary StaffJanna, Veterinary Receptionist

Janna joined the animal hospital team in 2022 as a veterinary receptionist. She has a BA in business communications from Arizona State University and an AS degree in business administration from Piedmont Virginia Community College. Janna spent several years in retail customer service before coming to Ivy Square, bringing a knowledge and understanding of the importance in building strong relationships and a commitment to providing every client with exceptional care. Her responsibilities include scheduling, check in, check out, and client communication, such as processing messages, questions, and food and medication requests.

In her free time, Janna enjoys spending time with her husband, family, and her cat, Dexter. She also enjoys art projects, being outdoors, and loves plants.

Charlottesville Veterinary StaffJason, Veterinary Assistant

Jason joined the animal hospital team in 2022 as a veterinary assistant. Jason was a former veterinary assistant at a hospital in Alabama before moving to Virginia and working in the consumer retail industry for several years until deciding to return to the vet life. His responsibilities at the hospital include patient care and client education, monitoring surgical procedures, inventory and hospital maintenance and supply ordering.

In his free time, Jason enjoys spending time with his family, gardening, cooking and playing the guitar.

Charlottesville Veterinary StaffCourtney, Veterinary Assistant

Courtney joined the animal hospital team in September 2023 as a veterinary assistant/receptionist. Prior to joining our hospital, Courtney was a former veterinary assistant at another local animal hospital for three years. In addition, Courtney has valuable experience from her employment with a canine behavioral training facility located in Charlottesville. Courtney temporarily left the veterinary industry to allow herself time with her family when she became a mother before returning to the veterinary field.

Courtney's responsibilities at the hospital include checking clients in/out, client communications, client education, assisting the doctors, phlebotomy, radiographs, handling, restraint, and other patient care duties.

Outside of work she enjoys being outside playing with her son, daughter, and their dogs. She also enjoys shopping at Target and having family get togethers.

Charlottesville Veterinary StaffAshara, Veterinary Assistant

Ashara rejoined the Ivy Square team in September 2024 as a certified veterinary assistant. Ashara originally left small animal medicine to expand her knowledge in equine medicine with a local large animal practice. Prior to joining the Animal Hospital of Ivy Square, Ashara obtained her veterinary certification from Charlottesville Albemarle Technical Education Center.

Ashara's responsibilities at the hospital include checking clients in/out, client communications, client education, assisting the doctors, phlebotomy, radiographs, handling, restraint, and other patient care duties.

Outside of work, Ashara enjoys spending time with her dog Elio, drawing, reading, and horseback riding.
